5 things that made me happy in Beijing during the past 7 days

1. seeing the old chinese men gathered on the sidewalk, sitting by their bikes, gossiping and showing off their pet birds. on my way to work. i don’t dig the pet birds. but the old men on the other hand, they are such characters each of them. especially ones that wear sunglasses from the 70s without knowing how cool they look in 2007. and the one with the colonel sanders-eque white goatee, with a mess of white hair sticking up straight from your big head to match. u elicit a smile from me everytime i see you.

2. catching up and going to see a movie with my bff. reminded me that in the land of cheap, fake dvds, some movies are just better when viewed on the big-screen. surround sound and popcorn, that’s what i’m talking about.

3. trying the korean restaurant near my house and finding out that the food is cheap and delicious. makes me heart beijing and all its 1000s of restaurants even more when i discover a gastronomic entity worthy of repeat visits.

4. meeting an international man of mystery, and re-discovering the virtues of living life “in the moment.”

5. finding out my company has finally, finally been aquired by ESD (energy for sustainable development), which already has brought me a new boss to admire and increased job satisfaction.
